Good news and a right step towards the Pakistan DTH launch, PEMRA issues 70 New Satellite TV Channel Licenses for PAKSAT 38E. The Auction initiated by Pakistan Electronic and Media Regulatory Authority (PEMRA) was staged on 2nd and 3rd May at their Islamabad Headquarters.

The new STV Channels to be added on PakSAT 38E KU-Band shows that the DTH service preparation is now at full swing. We have already reported that the Pakistan DTH service to have over 200+ HD and SD channels. This seems to be true now.

Pakistan Electronic Media Regulatory Authority (PEMRA) has auctioned 70 licenses for satellite TV channels, reported on Friday.
The PEMRA said it had offered 70 satellite TV licenses in seven categories: eight in News & Current Affairs, 27 in Entertainment, five in Sports, two in Agriculture, 12 in Regional Languages, four in Health and 12 in Education genres.
On May 2, bidding for News & Current Affairs, Entertainment and Regional Languages were concluded, whereas, on second-day licenses in Health, Sports, Education, and Agriculture were offered through bidding.
News & Current Affairs category channel brought the highest bid of Rs283.5 million, whereas the Entertainment category went for Rs50.5 million. The highest bid for regional languages channels offered Rs102 million, Agriculture for Rs52 million, Sports for Rs42.5 million, Education for Rs46 million and Health for Rs42 million bid.
The successful bidders would be required to deposit the balance amount of the earnest money of their offered bid within 15 days.
On May 2, the PEMRA had organized a two-day auction event at its headquarters for open bidding of new licenses of satellite television channels.
The auction continued till Friday which was being participated by 187 companies were licenses of 70 STV channels of seven categories including news current affairs, entertainment, health, sports and others were sold out.

All these new Satellite TV channels are categorized into 7 different categories. There are

  • 8 News & Current Affairs Channels
  • 27 Entertainment Channels
  • 12 Regional Language Channels
  • 5 Sports Channels
  • 2 Agriculture Channels
  • 4 Health Channels
  • 12 Educational and infotainment Channels.

Pakistan DTH Companies and Launch Date:

According to the official Statement by the head of PEMRA. The first ever Pakistan DTH service is going to launch in November or December 2019. It is expected that Shahzad Sky is going to be the first DTH company in Pakistan.

Followed by Mag DTH and TimeStar. All companies are currently doing the groundwork and are expected to be ready for the launch at the end of the year.
